Ken Hardy

Writer, Guitarist

Born on 12th September, 1981 and raised for a short time in New Village, Castries, it was nothing short of destiny that within this cultural community that Ken would find the creative influence for his future ambitions. He migrated to Vieux-Fort at the age of 12, where he embraced a different upbringing growing up in the south and also attending secondary school. After graduation, Ken decided to pursue his interests in architecture. However, within a few months, he realized that his love for the arts would not only bring him back to the community he grew up in but also take him on a different life journey. Upon his return to his community, he learned to play the guitar, tutored by older cousins Mesach and Niger, who had a reggae band, "Wevolucion". He then attended the school of music for two years under the tutelage of Michael Marciano and also took a few private classes from Ronald "Boo" Hinkson. Uncertain about the music, he gave it a break to study Afro-Caribbean and one of his passions, modern contemporary dance. This was one of the most vibrant movements in the community at that time and as a result, he qualified to hold positions at two (2) four star hotels (Club St.Lucia and the Almond Resorts) doing cabaret shows for eights (8) years.
Ken was also privileged to participate in regional and international presentations for dance companies across the island. His talents have been greatly recognized with prizes received for his participation in national visual art and poetry competition.
